Jeff and Wendy Speaect
Jeff grew up on a ranch in Oral, SD near Hot
Springs in the Southern Black Hills. The eldest of four children, he attended
country grade school and graduated from Hot Springs
High School. Jeff received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Business Administration from Chadron State College in Chadron,
NE in 2001 and an Associates of Arts Degree
in Mortuary Science from Arapahoe Community
College in Littleton,
CO in 2005.
Jeff’s musical inclination was what led him to a career in
funeral service. Jeff’s first solo was for
a church Christmas program where his grandfather accompanied him on the guitar
to “Go Tell It On The Mountain”. He was
first asked to sing for a church friend’s funeral when he was eight. That first experience at his local funeral
home led to many more where by the time he was through high school he had a
definite comfort level in the funeral home. Witnessing countless grieving families, he
developed a compassion for their hurt and was drawn to be a part of that
healing process. After many comments
such as “Oh, how could you want to do that”, he talked himself out of pursuing
funeral service and began toward a career in banking. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree and beginning
in banking, a yearning to help people kept drawing him back to funeral service.
He moved to Pierre
in the beginning of 2002 where he began studies for a degree in Mortuary
Science. He received his Funeral
Director/Embalmer license in 2005 and assisted both Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home
and Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Home until he moved to Rapid
City in 2007. Jeff returned to Pierre
in January of 2009 to manage Feigum Funeral Home.
In November of 2008, Jeff married Wendy Beck whom he had met
in College in Chadron, NE. Wendy works from home and is employed full
time by Nebraska Book Company of Lincoln, NE. She is a Point of Sale Support
Specialist and Inventory Control Specialist for their Software division.
Jeff and Wendy are licensed foster parents and are also
parents to their 13 year old dog “Xeka” from Guatemala.
