Biography

Catherine Delores Johnson of Blunt, SD passed away peacefully in her home on March 18, 2010. She was born in Tipler, Wisconsin on April 30, 1928 to Clifford and Estelle (Trowbridge) Jacobson. She grew up in the Madelia, MN area and graduated from Madelia High School in 1945. Until her marriage to Raymond Marshall of Blunt, SD in 1948, she attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Pierre, SD. To this marriage seven children were born: Peggy (Bill) Engstrom, Carol (Ron) Crain, Debra (Randy) Harkless, Denise Kjer, Mary (Garry) Scruggs, Timothy and Jeffrey. Raymond died in 1979 as a result of an accident. She married Melvin Johnson of Onida in 1991 and they made their home in Blunt. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church until it closed its doors in 1993, and became a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Onida. During her life, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Happy Medium Card Club, and volunteered in various and many community activities.
Catherine is survived by her husband Melvin, his four children and 9 grandchildren, her seven children and spouses, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, her brother Emil Jacobson, sisters Marilyn Haes and Margie (Sonny) Reinke, all of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Marshall and her parents Clifford and Estelle Jacobson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, may be made to the Countryside Hospice, Cancer or Heart Associations.
