Biography
Judy Kaye Heibel, 62, of Pierre, passed away, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at St. Mary’s Healthcare Center in Pierre. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00PM, Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Feigum Funeral Home concluding with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 9, 2011 at New Life Assembly of God followed by interment at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre.
Judy was born March 1, 1949 to Harold and Betty (Webb) Friesman in Pierre, SD. She attended Washington Grade School and Riggs High School in Pierre and graduated from SDSU in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Judy returned to Pierre to pursue her nursing career which lasted approximately 40 years. Her dedication, competence and compassion touched the lives of her patients and coworkers.
Her love for animals inspired her and a friend to found the Pierre Humane Society and supply numerous friends and family members with pets.
Her union with Bruce Johnson produced her two proudest accomplishments. Raising her children, Joel Andrew and Kathryn Elizabeth was a major focus in her life.
Judy met Lee Heibel while decorating the church for Christmas. They were married on June 13, 1998 and remained active church members throughout their marriage. Participating in and growing from Bible studies was important to her. Judy’s faith sustained, guided and lifted her throughout her life.
Judy enjoyed homemaking, cooking and baking for her family and friends. She had a special knack for decorating her home. She was a voracious reader and would often read late into the night. Her beautiful outdoor and indoor plants were a testament to her green thumb. She was fond of making and stamping cards with her friends. Judy’s witty sense of humor brought many laughs to her innumerable friends. Her ability to develop and maintain friendships was one of her greatest gifts.
Judy is survived by her husband, Lee; daughter, Katie Johnson; son, Joel Johnson; step daughters, Shelly (Bond) McKittrick of LaPine, OR, Heather (Mikey) Carpenter, Bend, OR, Farrah (Daniel) Murray, Gillette, WY; step son, Todd Heibel, Jackson, WY; step grandchildren, Anthony, Savannah, Jordan, Austin, Kaden, Ryder, Cougar and Owen; sister, JoAnn (Bill) Myers of Ft. Atkinson, WI; brothers-in-law, Vennie (Lu) Heibel of Pierre, Randy (Cyndi) Heibel of Poulsbo, WA and Jim (Lois) Heibel of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Doug) Wiederrich of Blue Springs, MO and Debra (Paul) Krasuski of Phoenix, AZ; aunts, Sue Ferguson of Rapid City, SD and Nancy Langenes of Walnut Creek, CA and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
