December 14, 1930 - August 17, 2008

Lillian Vrooman, 77, Pierre, died very unexpectedly on August 17, 2008 in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2008, 5:00 to 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service, Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre. Funeral service will be Friday, August 22, 2008, 10:00 am, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Pierre, with Rev. Susan Carr officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pierre. Lillian Anna Zimmerman was born to Fred and Louisa Zimmerman on December 14, 1930, at rural McLaughlin, SD. She was raised on the family farm seven miles south of Fort Yates, ND. When she was 18, her mother purchased a home in Mobridge, SD so the girls could find employment. Lillian worked at various jobs: Ben Franklin, the local bakery, and motel work to name a few. She married Gerald Vrooman on July 14, 1954 at the German Congregational Church in Mobridge, SD. They lived on the Vrooman farm and ranch at rural Eagle Butte, where they raised their children. After the children were raised, she worked at the Eagle Butte School District middle school as dining room supervisor. They retired and moved to Pierre in September 1989. Lillian worked at Taco John's in Pierre as dining room hostess for nine years, before fully retiring. She remained very active helping at various functions with her church and hospice until the time of her death. She gave her landscaping loving and wonderful care, just as she always has her family.

Lillian is survived by her husband Gerald of Pierre, SD; son Charles of Onida, SD; daughters Janice (Shane) Reede of Fort Pierre, SD, Diane (Jon) Gruhot of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lois Brooks of Norfolk, NE; seven grandchildren: Moe (Rochelle) Reede of Milbank, SD, Jodie (Chris) Crutcher of Elizabethtown, PA, Shayna (John) Sterling of Pierre, SD, Amanda (Chase) Williams of Woodbury, MN, Nicole Gruhot of St. Paul, MN, Dennis Brooks of Sioux Falls, SD, and Crystal Brooks of Norfolk, NE; five great grandchildren: Christian and Haylie Crutcher, Elyse and Hunter Reede and Andraya Dowling; four sisters Bertha Will, Martha Klein, Violet Klein, and Nelda Zimmerman. Family was her soul and inspiration in life and she loved to spend time with them any time she could.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Louisa Zimmerman; her brothers: Richard, Oscar, Reinhold, and Norman and two of her sisters Lydia Zacher and Hilda Fried.
